Make Poverty History offers Live 8 tickets for best campaign events

TORONTO - Canadians who were unable to reach Ticket Master fast enough to secure one of the free Live 8 tickets that sold out within 21 minutes yesterday still have a chance to be involved in Live 8 and demonstrate to Prime Minister Paul Martin that Canadians are serious about the need to end global poverty.

The Make Poverty History Coalition is asking people to take action by hosting a Live 8 viewing party at a central place in their community or in their homes. Canadians who are taking action should e-mail contest@makepovertyhistory.ca and describe what they are doing at their event to make poverty history. The Make Poverty History coalition will reward some of the best event plans with a pair of tickets for representatives of the group to attend Live 8 in Barrie.

“By wearing white bands, the symbol of the global Make Poverty History campaign, and encouraging everyone at your event to sign a postcard or send an email to the Prime Minister, your community can take action and enjoy the Live 8 broadcast together,” says Gerry Barr, co-chair of the Make Poverty History campaign. “By organizing an event Canadians can send a message to the Prime Minister that enough is enough and it’s time for our generation to make poverty history.”

Broadcasters across the country are already doing their part to help Make Poverty History. They have some of the few remaining tickets to Live 8 for their most active and creative Make Poverty History supporters among their viewers and listeners.
